How to Arrange a Meeting with a Writing Mentor

Make an Appointment

Appointments for 30-minute sessions are available Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. through 3:30 p.m., and Friday from 9:30 a.m. through 1:30 p.m. You may sign up for one pre-arranged session per week. To make an appointment, click on the “Make an Appointment” box on the right-hand side of this page. In order to register with our scheduling system, select “click here to register” and follow the instructions.

After registering with our scheduling system, you can reserve space on our appointment schedule for the current quarter. Click on any open white space in the calendar to select your appointment time. You may select a time slot as far in advance as you like, up to the end of the quarter. Enter the appropriate information in the pop-up window, then click "Save Appointment" and return to the calendar, where your desired appointment space should now be gold rather than white. To cancel your appointment at any time, click the gold square and select "Cancel This Appointment" in the resulting pop-up window.

If you would like to sign up for a regular weekly appointment (meeting with the same writing mentor at the same time each week), you may do so simply by selecting the same slot on the scheduling calendar for every week throughout the quarter.

Background information on each writing mentor is available here on our website (on the “Our Staff” page), and is briefly indicated on the appointment schedule as well. Feel free to select a mentor whose background meets your needs.

Should it become necessary to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please do so as soon as possible.

Drop-In Assistance

If you would prefer not to make an appointment, you’re welcome to attend our drop-in hours (first come, first served – as time permits). Drop-in sessions are generally allotted 30 minutes. There is no limit to the number of times you can come to the Writing Center on a drop-in basis, but you are restricted to one session per day. Keep in mind that if you arrive towards the end of the center’s operating hours, you may not receive a full session. At times of high demand, we may not be able to see everyone who comes during drop-in hours.

Writing mentors are available for drop-in help Monday through Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Friday from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m., and Sunday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.

You are also welcome to visit the Writing Center during appointment hours without a prior appointment. If any mentors have open sessions available, we will try to accommodate you immediately. If you have already had an appointment that week, the session will be treated as a drop-in. Please note that during our appointment hours, priority will always be given to those students who have scheduled appointments in advance.

Tardy and No-Show Policies

For scheduled appointments, please arrive promptly. If you are more than ten minutes late, you will lose your appointment slot and be classified as a no-show. Students who miss more than two appointments will not be allowed to make any further appointments for the rest of the quarter and will have to rely on drop-in hours should they wish to receive further assistance.

The Writing Center is closed during finals and over the break. We'll re-open in Week 2 of winter quarter, on Monday, Jan. 12.
